The Jaffrey-Rindge Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration directs attention to Dr. King’s famous pronouncement, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” with a focus on environmental justice. Aaron Mair, recent past president of the national Sierra Club and the Club’s first African American president, will provide the keynote, “Shades of Justice: building a diverse and inclusive environmental movement.” Mr. Mair is a prominent environmentalist and environmental justice activist. He was a member of the Clinton White House Council on Environmental Quality and a recipient of the EPA ’s Environmental Quality award for leadership in the campaign to require General Electric to clean up the Hudson River. Other features include musical performances by district school choruses, presentation of sixth grade projects on environmental justice, and announcement of the MilliporeSigma-MLK Student Scholarship opportunity for graduating Conant seniors. Reception and exhibit follow the event.
