Town of Jaffrey issued the following announcement on April 1.
The Town of Jaffrey is reducing the bridge on Heath Road to one lane. The supporting material under the road has washed away on each side of the road. Therefore, holes and sinking pavement have occurred on the sides of the road. The road bed material in the center of the road is intact and supporting the roadway. Additionally, the culverts carrying the stream under the road are in good condition. We are confident the center of the road will carry all vehicle traffic until the entire roadway can be repaired. Therefore, all vehicle traffic will traverse the road way over the center of the bridge. Barriers and “One Lane Road” signage will be placed to safely assist travelers over the bridge.
The Town of Jaffrey is engaging our bridge engineers to evaluate the bridge and determine the most effective repair that will return it to full traffic. Our experience with other bridges in town is this can be a lengthy process. Your patience will be greatly appreciated as we work to fix this problem.
If you have any questions, please call the Department of Public Works at 532-6521 or the Town Office at 532-7880.
