Town Of Swanzey Creates Energy Commission

0Comments

At their regular meeting on August 31st the Swanzey Board of Selectmen created an Energy Commission, which will make recommendations on matters pertaining to the study, planning, and use of energy resources. Other duties are expected to include: researching municipal energy use and costs; making recommendations to local boards and committees pertaining to municipal energy plans and sustainable practices; supporting and promoting the Town’s Community Power Plan; and making recommendations regarding sustainability of Town facility projects. The Commission is authorized for five full members and three alternate members. Interested volunteers should submit the Town’s Application for Town Committees form or a letter of interest.

Town Administrator Michael Branley stated, “The idea of creating an Energy Commission came out of the Town’s successful efforts to adopt a Community Power Plan, which was approved by the voters at the 2022 Town Meeting and involved a temporary committee. Members of the Community Power Committee expressed interest in continuing to work on energy related issues and with increases in electricity and fuel costs the Energy Commission’s work will be very valuable.”
