Voluntary Water Use Restriction

The Southern portion of the State is experiencing severe to extreme drought conditions. Early predictions show that these trends will continue. The Jaffrey Water Department works hard every day to deliver clean, reliable, and steady flows of potable drinking water to the residents of Jaffrey, NH. Part of this job is monitoring the three ground water well sites in Town. This involves tracking well water levels, tracking perimeter well water levels, tracking gallons used each day, and tracking the hours the wells ran each day. Currently, The Town of Jaffrey is keeping up with demand and our wells are handling the dry conditions.

However, The Town of Jaffrey would like to encourage water conservation by enacting a voluntary water use restriction starting on August 22, 2022. Whenever possible, please refrain from outdoor lawn watering. If outdoor watering must be done, please do so after the sun has gone down to prevent evaporation. Do not allow faucets to run during bathroom activities such as brushing your teeth and shaving. Be mindful of how long your shower is as even energy efficient shower heads still use 2-3 gallons of water a minute. Lastly, please locate and fix all plumbing issues on your property. Any leaks present on your property not only waste water, but waste money.

If you are unsure on if any leaks are present within your residence, or how to read your water meter, please contact The Jaffrey DPW at (603) 532-6521. If you suspect a leak may be present, The Jaffrey Water department can even come by and check it out at no cost to you.

Please also visit www.des.nh.gov to find more information on how to conserve water at home. Although this notice to intendent for the Jaffrey Residents on Town Water, please also consider conserving water if you have your own private well as you may also experience well water level troubles. Most homeowners do not track how much water they have on a day-to-day basis so a drought can really sneak up on you.

Respectfully, Tony Cavaliere – Town of Jaffrey Superintendent of Utilities
