Elaborating on Dr. King's famous pronouncement, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration addresses environmental justice. The keynote speaker will be Aaron Mair, recent past president of the 2-million-member national Sierra Club and the Club's first African American president. Mr. Mair is a prominent environmentalist and environmental justice activist. He was a member of the Clinton White House Council on Environmental Quality and a recipient of the EPA ’s Environmental Quality award for leadership in the campaign to require General Electric to clean up the Hudson River. Retired after a long career as an environmental-spatial epidemiologist for the state of New York, Mr. Mair now leads "Adirondacks Forever" an initiative to preserve Adirondacks Park. Mr. Mair will address "Shades of Justice: building a diverse and inclusive environmental movement." School choirs will perform music. The ceremony is followed by a reception and student exhibit.
